Most Memorable Race:
Throwing it all the way back to high school, my most memorable race was the 2012 NJ Meet of Champions during my senior year. Hurricane Sandy had torn through New Jersey earlier that month, disrupting training for everyone and forcing a condensed state championship schedule. We didn't know what the rest of the season would look like, but we found a way to get together and continue training.
Holmdel Park—a storied and notoriously hard course in NJ—ended up hosting both the group championships and the Meet of Champions. My teammates and I all had the race of our lives, each running a PR at the group meet to win our group championship. Just four days later, our top five ran PRs again, which led to a second place finish overall as a team, the number one public school, and delivered the highest finish in our school’s history.
On top of that, I became the first runner from our school to break 16 minutes on that course—something I’d been chasing since I was a freshman. I was so proud of everyone on that team and it was the perfect conclusion to four years of cross country together.
Running Start:
When I was around 9 or 10, my parents entered my brother and me in a neighborhood 5k put on by a local hospital. My little brother and I ran it together and he leaned at the line to beat me. The race was so fun and I wanted to a second chance to beat my brother, so running kinda took off from there. I just kept jumping in neighborhood 5ks until I got to middle school and could start competing on the cross country and track team.
Fun Facts:
I ran steeplechase for a bit in college and my first ever race of it was in the snow - I still get chills thinking about that water pit.
My first ever concert was going to see the American Idol on the Road tour with my mom in high school.
I've kept every card (birthday, holiday, thank you, etc.) I've ever received.
