"Dan has not only enhanced my performance, but he has also changed the way I mentally approach running.
Dan truly encompasses and incorporates all aspects of what it takes to be a successful athlete: body, mind, and spirit.
Body: Dan has coached me through 3 major PRs in the past 6 months - the Boston Marathon, where I ran a 4 minute PR of 2:37, the Madison Half Marathon, where I set a 4 minute PR of 1:12, then most recently the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, where I was able to have a major breakthrough performance and set another 9 minute PR at 2:28. Dan has helped me achieve these new levels of athleticism through smart and structured training, coaching me through injury and always reminding me to trust the process. He focuses on training you to be be a well-rounded athlete, working every part of the body, teaching you how to harness your speed, strengthen your endurance and maintain overall fitness through regular training and even through injury.
Mind: Dan takes all the stress away when it comes to planning your weekly schedule. Everything is laid out for you in the most organized manner. Having this takes a huge weight off of you as an athlete. Dan is also flexible - he understands that the majority of us have a million other things going on simultaneously. If something pops up, don't worry, he'll have your schedule adjusted within the hour of whatever it is that might have popped up last minute. Life happens and Dan adjusts so you don't have to.
Spirit: In my eyes, spirit is the most important quality. Every coach can write and plan a quality workout, but not every coach has the spirit that Dan has, it's truly infectious. He makes you excited to do things that would normally frighten you. Dan has made me think about running in a whole new light. I wake up every morning ready to tackle what he has laid out for me, I don't shy away from it.
Dan is the coach that believes that you have whatever it takes inside of you to achieve your goals no matter how big or small they may seem. He has the ability to bring out the best possible athlete inside of you, mentally, emotionally and physically. I know that I would not be half the athlete that I am right now if it was not for Dan’s guidance, mentorship, leadership, enthusiasm, trustworthiness, flexibility, knowledge and most importantly honor. It has made me realize that partnering with him and his team was the best move I could have made to take my running career and fitness to the next level. He takes so much pride in what he does and in his athletes that it directly reflects in his athletes' performances. I am beyond excited to see what the future holds for the DWRunning team and family."
