DWRunning Training Camp

DWRunning is excited to host our fourth annual training camp, held in Ludington, Michigan over Labor Day weekend! As with the last three years' camps, the goal of the camp is to provide an opportunity to get in some strong training (primarily leading into the fall season) on varying terrain, build camaraderie and have FUN. We look forward to hosting and hope many of you join us on this adventure!

For those unfamiliar with Ludington, it is home to an awesome state park with beautiful trails and dunes, located right on Lake Michigan. Allie's high school team hosted training camps here every summer, so it has been vetted for running and is a great place to get fit! Please note that several of the runs are held on trails. While they are beautiful and fun, they are different than running on roads and may cause different soreness and fatigue than we’re used to.


The Itinerary

+ FRIDAY, AUGUST 30TH
9:00am - Chicagoans begin travel to Ludington
3:00pm - All athletes meet at rental house
4:00pm - Easy trail run, followed by flexibility, strides & a dip in the lake
7:30pm - Dinner at the house
8:30pm - Campfire

+ SATURDAY, AUGUST 31ST
8:30am - Road tempo & hill run, followed by GS & flexibility
11:00am - Brunch
12:00pm - Free time, option to hang out in the state park
4:00pm - Optional shakeout run
6:00pm - Dinner & House of Flavors (ice cream) in town
8:30pm - Campfire

+ SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST
9:00am - Easy trail run, followed by flexibility & an optional dip in the lake
11:00am - Brunch
12:00pm - 20 minute massages or Yoga class (depending on availability) & free time
7:00pm - Dinner at the house
8:00pm - Movie

+ MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND
7:30am - Long run on the roads/trails, followed by flexibility & strength
11:30am - Brunch & closing at the house

The House

With 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a fire pit and direct beach access, this house is an AWESOME home base for our trip. It is located in a quiet area of town, just 5 miles from Ludington State Park and 2 miles from downtown Ludington. Attendees will either sleep in twin bunks or share queen beds, though specific sleeping arrangements will be determined closer to the camp.

The Details

  • Cost is $475 per person

    • Includes lodging, all meals & snacks from Friday dinner through Monday brunch, and short massages or a yoga class (TBD which based on availability)

    • Transit costs to get to the camp will be separate since not all DWRunners will be coming from the same place

  • (Initially) Limited to 12 DWRunners (plus the hosts, Dan & Allie Walters) - If more than 12 people express interest, we will offer a discounted option for those willing to sleep on an air mattress

  • Half of the cost will be due upon confirmation of "entry" into the camp. If your plans change and someone else wishes to take your place, you will be fully refunded, otherwise the deposit will be forfeited.


The Application

"Applications" for those interested in attending the training camp will be open and accepted from Thursday, April 18th through Friday, April 26th. Be on a lookout for a communication in the days after the “lottery” closes.
