One day I went out for a run along the lake when I was about 17 or 18 years old and I didn't have a plan, I was just going to go as far as I felt I could. Up until that point the furthest I'd gone was 4 or 5 miles, but this was all an estimate because it was 2002-ish and I didn't have a cell phone (let alone a smart phone) or anything to track distance. I ended up being out there for about 2 hours and I'll never forget the rush I felt. That first runners high was a life changing experience. I would later find that I did about 15 miles that day and I've been hooked ever since.
Long-Term Running Goals:
Most importantly I want to run a sub 3 hour marathon/qualify for Boston. That's been a major goal since I started running. On the more ambitious side, I've always wanted to break 16 minutes in a 5k.
Favorite Place I’ve Run:
The Tongariro Alpine crossing in New Zealand
“If I could run with anyone, I’d run with…”:
The obvious choice here is Steve Prefontaine, and he's definitely up there, but MY first choice is Michael Johnson. I'll never forget his gold shoes during the 1996 Olympics. As an impressionable young boy, that's the first time I could ever recall thinking running was cool. Michael Johnson made running cool for me.
Mountains or Ocean?:
Both? Is that cheating? Don't make me choose!
Tea or Coffee?:
Early Bird or Night Owl?:
Both haha. I've run bars and restaurants periodically in my life, so I've gotten accustomed to being up into the wee hours of the night. I'm an early bird by nature, however.
Chocolate or Vanilla?:
Bolded PRs are PRs run while training with DWRunning.
