Long-Term Running Goals:
To run a marathon with my son some day. He may like running, he may not, but hopefully somewhere down the road, many, many years from now, we can run a race together.
It's a cliche, but the elites. When I'm ready to get psyched for a race, I check out old races on YouTube. Want to run fast? Watch Daniel Komen's 3k World Record.
"Into Thin Air" by John Krakauer. I first read it in high school and have probably read it cover to cover about five times. It's an amazing true story about human survival.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." - Mike Tyson. This applies to so much in life, not just running.
Best Running Story:
I once out kicked Bob Kennedy in a 1500m. It was at his running camp, and he was making sure to stay a stride ahead of everyone, but I swung wide into lane 4 off the final curve, and was out of his peripheral vision. I passed him in the last 5m, and we were already across the finish line when he noticed. It wasn't a real race, but I still blew past a 12:58 guy.
