The marathon is probably my primary race distance, followed by the half marathon.
My dog, Image, a Kuvasz, was responsible. We were training for performance events (agility and obedience) after she retired from the show circuit at the top of her game and number one in her breed. She was young, big and fast, and easily outmaneuvered me. I needed speed and endurance to keep up and saw an ad to train for a half marathon.
The race that tested me the most was the 2014 Chicago Marathon. My mother was gravely ill leading up to the race and passed away 10 days later. At mile 17, I was tripped from behind and thrown to the ground. Having dedicated my race to my mother, I was determined to keep going. I finished with a 3 minute PR and won my division. Ten years earlier, the Chicago Marathon was my first marathon as a brand new runner. A circle had been completed - an unimaginable one for me.
The Tokyo Marathon is the last one left for me to complete all of the six World Marathon Majors.
Motivation When Hurting During a Race or Workout:
Often I race with someone in my heart that may be facing challenges, or in honor or remembrance. It helps keep everything in perspective and motivates me to do my best.
Favorite Part of Being a DWRunner:
My favorite part of the DWRunning Team so far is the infectious enthusiasm, energy and warmth. As a result, my running has been reinvigorated and improved in short order. It has been a very happy experience.
