Most Memorable Run:
I love running in new places, as it is the perfect way to explore a new environment. I recently returned from a trip to South Africa and Mozambique, where my views on runs were out of this world. One particular run was in Hermanus, SA - a small, seaside town known for their on-land whale watching. I was running with mountains on one side of me, the ocean on the other and watching whales breech throughout the sea. It was one of the most amazing runs I have ever experienced.
I am dying to do the Chicago Marathon! I was all set to run it in 2014, but scratched last minute due to injury. It is my goal race of 2016. I would also love to travel more and do races in other countries...maybe one day!
Motivation to Run:
I run for me. It keeps me healthy, makes me happy and challenges me in ways that I can't otherwise be challenged. It allows me to be competitive, even if it is just against myself.
Motivation When Hurting During a Race or Workout:
I have some mantras I like to repeat to myself to keep me going. My favorite two that I use most often are "I am comfortable" and "I can do hard things" - I repeat them to myself over and over when I am tired. I also like to turn on some loud, fast music - that always helps pump me up!
Reward for a Good Race:
Salty food, a massage and a new running outfit. The only way I don't end up sick after a marathon (and recently half marathons) is to eat something super salty - like a deli sandwich and a bag of chips! Massages help me feel better, and who can say no to new clothes?
