I love distance, so anything over 10 miles is usually a favorite. I like to find a groove and grind.
Long-Term Running Goals:
I'd like to continue to focus on the marathon. It's my strongest race and I'd love to improve my time to a full hour faster than my first marathon - which I'm not far from doing! I'd also like to run all 6 majors (all I have left are Tokyo and London), race a few more international marathons, and maybe do a 50 mile trail race. I'd also one day like to do a triathlon and maybe even an ironman - but I am allergic to the material wet suits are made out of. So that's my excuse for now.
My Dad introduced me to running. He was a runner and I have memories of biking alongside him during some of his longer runs growing up. But I absolutely hated it at first. I actually finished in last place in our distance run test in elementary school. I guess you could say I've come a long way. Once I joined the field hockey team - and also got the motivation to lose some weight (I was a bit on the chubby side all through middle and most of high school), I started running and found the joy and stress relief that accompanied it very satisfying. My dad has since passed on and I now find long, solo runs a way to connect with him and reflect on my self/life.
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do." - Eleanor Roosevelt
Dan inspires me through his awesome energy and spirit - driving me truly to be the best I can be at this crazy sport we love so much. My mom inspires me by constantly supporting me through my lowest lows and highest highs. My dad for who he was and his influence on me to always push myself and work hard. And the other DWRunners for their stories are what encourages me through some of the toughest times.
